Sundowns assistant manager Rulani Mokwena has shared his thoughts on Al Ahly players taking their silver medals off after CAF Champions League final defeat.
The game was surrounded by controversies, taking place in Morocco despite one of the two finale sides being Wydad Casablanca.
Consequently, the Reds had a shaky start to the game, and they couldn’t recover after conceding the opening goal in the 15th minute.
Things got even worse after the halftime break as they conceded another goal at the start of the second half, for the game to end 2-0.
After the game, Al Ahly players were seen taking off their medals, and a viral video even showed Amr El-Sulya throwing away his medal.
Some criticized the behaviour claiming that it doesn’t show sportsmanship and others defended it as they believe it’s normal to be upset.
Sundowns assistant manager Rulani Mokwena shared his thoughts on the topic, discussing the possible reasons behind it.
“There could be many reasons. One [reason] could be that they are bad loser,” Mokwena said, as per iDiski Times.
“Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser! And that’s the reality of the situation.
“How many finals have these Al Ahly players played? For them just to be in a final is not an end-goal, it’s not the greatest experience of their careers, it’s just another final.
“But another final they have to win and they wanted to win, because for them it’s also about always participating in the Club World Cup and you could also sense maybe that’s part of the disappointment, that they’re not part of the Club World Cup in the following year.”
