Al Ahly’s legendary defender Wael Gomaa criticised former head coach Pitso Mosimane for how he managed the club.

Gomaa is known to be one of the biggest critics of Mosimane during the South African’s time with Al Ahly between 2020 and 2022.

In a recent interview with MBC Masr, the 48-year-old opened up on Mosimane’s lack of leadership and was honest about his distaste for the latter’s managerial traits.

He also mentioned multiple instances during Mosimane’s tenure with the club that he did not like, saying: “I’m talking about facts and incidents that happened here.

“The things I said about him [Mosimane] in the past were based on the style of play I was watching in comparison with the teams we played against at the time.

“One of the things I didn’t like about him in particular was the fact that he was using rivals Zamalek as a bargaining chip with Al Ahly to get a better contract.

“I was told that he’s a good coach in the training ground but he always sought holidays for him and the players which was to their detriment.

“There were also players that told me personally they didn’t like the way Mosimane played. Again, he’s a big coach but I think he only saw Al Ahly as a stepping stone in his career,” he added.

Despite making harsh statements about Mosimane, Gomaa also claimed he has his reservations about the current head coach Marcel Koller.

Gomaa does have his own managerial experience as he was part of Carlos Queiroz’s coaching staff for Egypt during their run in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
