OFFICIAL: Ittihad Jeddah announce Houssem Aouar signing

Saudi giants Ittihad Jeddah have officially announced the signing of Algeria international Houssem Aouar from AS Roma.

The transfer fee is expected to be in the region of €12 million, earning Roma a considerable amount considering he was signed as a free transfer just last summer.

Aouar will join a midfield already consisting of Fabinho and Kanté as the Tigers are eyeing the Saudi Pro League title after a disappointing season which saw them finish fifth and miss out on Asian spots.

This news does not come as a surprise, as Aouar struggled for game time in Rome, eventually leading to his departure. He featured in only 25 matches, scoring a total of four goals throughout all competitions.

Aouar will be looking for a fresh start in the Saudi Pro League and impress to seal a spot in the Algerian national team ahead of the deciding stages of the World Cup qualifiers.

He becomes Ittihad Jeddah’s fourth summer signing after deals for Ettifaq’s Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, and Al Shabab duo Hamed Al-Shanqiti and Saad Al-Mousa.

Having appointed Laurent Blanc as a new manager, the club is also said to be closing on a deal with Aston Villa star Moussa Diaby and AS Roma’s youngster Jan Oliveras.
