Al Ahly are familiar opponents, says Simba assistant coach

Simba assistant coach Selemani Matola discussed his side’s upcoming CAF Champions League tie against Al Ahly.

Al Ahly made their way into the knockout stages after coming out on top of their group with 12 points from six games.

Meanwhile, Simba beat Wydad Casablanca to second place in Group B on goal difference to secure a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals.

The draw later revealed that Simba will face Al Ahly next in a two-legged tie with their first encounter taking place in Tanzania on Friday, March 29th.

“We have been playing with the Arabs regularly for three or four years now. So they are familiar opponents. We know them and they know us,” Matola said via IPP Media. “The match will be difficult because it involves sides that are familiar to each other.

For us, it is how we play our cards because we are meeting an opponent that we understand, as was the case in the so-called African Football League competition games.

“If we had played our cards properly, we would have edged them out. It’s time now to play our cards to progress to the next stage,” he added.
