Al Ahly’s Emam Ashour laments missed chances in Fluminense defeat

Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour believes his side missed a number of key chances in their defeat to Fluminense on Monday.

The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Fluminense to settle for the third-place playoffs in the Club World Cup.

Jhon Arias gave Fluminense the lead from the spot in the second half before John Kennedy’s strike put the game to bed.

The defeat meant that Al Ahly will now face either Urawa Red Diamonds or Manchester City to challenge for the tournament’s bronze medal.

“We did our best today but unfortunately it wasn’t enough,” Ashour told SSC Sports after the game. “I want to thank the team for their performance.

“I think we missed a number of good chances in the first half and hopefully we can improve in our next game.”
