Mahmoud Abou El-Regal among 18 African referees in the 2022 World Cup

Egyptian referee Mahmoud Abou El-Regal will represent Egypt as an assistant referee in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Later this year in Qatar, 32 national teams will compete for the most prestigious football trophy, the World Cup.

The tournament is set to start on the 21st of November, while the finale will be played on the 18th of December.

Today, FIFA announced the referees officiating the tournament’s games, with 18 Africans on the list.

Egyptian referee Mahmoud Abou El-Regal was among these names as he was the only Egyptian on the list.

Abou El-Regal has previously represented Egypt in a number of major competitions including the Africa Cup of Nations and Club World Cup.

The next World Cup will also see women officiating games for the first time in the tournament’s history as five female referees were selected.
