Egypt move up in FIFA rankings despite Senegal defeat

Despite failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Egypt have moved up two spots in the March FIFA World Ranking.

In the last FIFA ranking in February, The Pharaohs were placed 34th on the international ladder, sitting fourth among the African nations.

Since then, the Egyptian national team have only played two games which were in the World Cup qualifiers against Senegal.

The first of which ended in a 1-0 victory and the second was lost in a penalty shootout after a 1-0 defeat in Dakar.

As a result, Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup; however, they climbed two spots on the international ladder, placing 32nd in the March ranking.

Despite advancing on the international ladder, Egypt remained in fourth place among CAF nations, behind Senegal (20), Morocco (24), and Nigeria (30).

Tunisia completed the five top rankings in Africa as they came in 35th place, ahead of Cameroon (37), Algeria (44), Mali (52), Ivory Coast (53), Burkina (56), and Ghana (60).

Meanwhile, on the Arabic scene, Egypt are now second, only behind Morocco, with Tunisia, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia completing the top five.

In the world rankings, Brazil are now in first place, followed by Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and the Netherlands, making the top 10.
