Ex-Egypt manager Javier Aguirre takes charge of La Liga's Real Mallorca

Former Egypt national team manager Javier Aguirre has officially taken charge of La Liga outfit Real Mallorca.

Aguirre took charge of the Egyptian national team in 2018 and was sacked less than a year later after exiting the 2019 AFCON in the quarter-finals against South Africa.

After his departure from Egypt, Aguirre took the lead of Spanish outfit CD Leganes, but after failing to keep them up in La Liga, he moved less than a year later to Mexico to coach CF Monterrey.

The 63-year-old manager led Monterrey to CONCACAF Champions League victory, but he was sacked due to disappointing performances and results in the FIFA Club World Cup and in the domestic league.

Aguirre’s next step will be returning to Spain as he was officially announced as the new Real Mallorca head coach.

The news comes two days after Luis Garcia Plaza was relieved of his duties as club manager, the dismissal was a result to slipping to La Liga relegation zone.

Javier’s mission to help the team survive in the top flight won’t be easy as they currently lie 18th on the league table with 26 points from 29 games.
