Al Ahly and Egypt National Team forward Mohamed Sherif has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 alongside teammate Ahmed Yasser Rayan.

The 24-year-old announced his contraction of the virus through his personal Instagram account on Sunday morning.

The Egyptian international followed in the footsteps of Egypt teammates Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny, and Ahmed Hassan Kouka, becoming the fourth player to be part of the national team to contract the virus.

With the addition of Ahmed Yasser Rayan, Al Ahly now have four players in their squad to get positive for COVID-19, alongside Saleh Gomaa and Kahraba.

Sherif had just recently returned to the Red Devils, following a successful season-long loan at Egyptian premier league outfit Enppi.

The talisman earned a place in the national team in Hossam El Badry’s squad after he scored 14 goals in 30 appearances last season.

The former Wadi Degla forward scored on his national team debut against Togo last Tuesday, where he struck from close range after a long ball to secure the Pharaohs’ win.

After a string of world-class performances last term and his recent success with the national team, Sherif will undoubtedly be looking to cement his place in Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly squad and will hope that testing positive for COVID-19 will not halt the process.

Meanwhile, Rayan was also out on loan last campaign at El-Gouna, scoring six goals while assisting twice to help his former club to avoid relegation.

The 22-year-old striker was also part of the Egypt U23 national team to win the 2019 U23 AFCON, and just scored the winner against Brazil a few days ago.

It’s worth mentioning that both Sherif and Rayan are unavailable for the CAF Champions League final next Friday as they were not registered in the squad.
