OFFICIAL: Sam Morsy makes deadline day switch to Ipswich Town

Sam Morsy

Egypt international and Middlesbrough midfielder, Sam Morsy, has completed his move to League One outfit Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

Morsy, 29, has been plying his trade at Championship Middlesbrough since September 2020, joining from Wigan Atheltic.

He has been an integral part of Neil Warnock’s squad, making 36 appearances, including four this season, scoring once while providing five assists.

However, he was recently linked to a surprise move Ipswich Town, who play in a league lower than Middlesbrough in League One.

Against all odds, the move took place and the Towns have secured Morsy’s signature who has put pen-to-paper a three-year contract, the club announced in an official statement.

Ipswich Town

The Egypt international becomes the team’s 19th signing this transfer window as they attempt to secure promotion to the Championship by the end of the season. However, in five games so far this campaign they only earned three points and sit in 21st in the 24-team league.

The Tractor Boys are coached by Paul Cook, who is no stranger to Sam Morsy, having signed the Egyptian twice for Chesterfield and Wigan Athletic, with the player captaining both sides under his charge.

Overall, Morsy made 218 appearances for Cook across League Two, League One, and the Championship, helping the coach win two league titles with Wigan and Chesterfield and reach the EFL Trophy final with the latter back in 2014.
