Wigan Athletic captain Sam Morsy has signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal with the Championship side.

As a Christmas present for many, the Latics midfielder has committed to the club until 2021 signing a two-and-a-half-year deal and was unveiled on twitter as the ‘Leader of the pack’.

The 27-year-old joined Wigan in January 2016 from Chesterfield and has since made over 100 appearances, helping his side win League One last season and promotion to the Championship.

Manager Paul Cook, who reunited with Sam when he joined the club in 2017, told Wigan Athletic, “I have known Samy for a long time and his appetite to learn and better himself every day is second to none.”

He emphasised the importance of Morsy to the club saying, “Samy is a really important player for the club and I know our supporters will be really pleased with this news.”

He also added, “He has deserved everything he has got in terms of his place at the World Cup last summer and now his new contract here at Wigan.”

Morsy has now made 7 appearances for Egypt, also featuring at the World Cup.
