Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool were just weeks away from ending their three-decade domestic title drought before the world was put to a hold by the Corona virus. KingFut’s Ahmed Khalil discusses Salah’s achievements this season and the possibility of him becoming the first Egyptian to win the Premier Leaguetitle.
The forward has been a revelation since making his switch from Roma in 2017, most noticeably making Premier League history with a record 32 league goals in the 2017-18 season.
Salah didn’t slow down there, however, claiming a share of last season’s golden boot alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane with 22 goals.
He has found the net 16 times so far this season, helping the Reds in their close journey to the league title.
The Egyptian’s precise drive into the bottom corner against Bournemouth means he has now scored more than any other Liverpool player whose first century of games came in the top flight.
Salah’s incredible scoring record puts him ahead of Sam Raybould with 67. He has also scored more than Luis Suarez (69) and Fernando Torres (65) in fewer games than both.
The Egyptian King also became the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals in all competitions in three consecutive seasons since Michael Owen in 2000-2001 and 2002-2003.
The attacker has been instrumental for Liverpool as their search for Premier League glory is all but over.
Salah is also firmly in the hunt for more individual success this season, now just one goal behind Jamie Vardy in the race for Premier League top scorer.
City remain second, but the result means Liverpool will get their hands on a long-awaited top-flight title if they beat Everton and Crystal Palace in their next two games.
Should City slip up again in the coming weeks, Jurgen Klopp’s men could well be crowned champions before then.
KingFut wishes him the best of luck in winning the title this season and representing Egypt with pride.
