Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has announced the club’s relationship with team captain Hossam Ashour has come to an end.
Ashour’s contract with Al Ahly was set to run out at the end of the season with the club announcing that they will not be renewing his contract.
The 34-year-old was advised by Al Ahly to hang up his boots at the end of the season to finish his career on a high after winning a total of 34 trophies with the Red Devils.
The club had promised Ashour that a testimonial game will be held for the midfielder while offering him a deal with Al Ahly’s TV channel as a pundit.
However, weeks later, Ashour released a video on his personal Instagram account, criticising Al Ahly’s board of directors for not organizing him a testimonial game ahead of his retirement, as promised before.
And on Sunday, Abdel-Hafiz has announced the end of Ashour’s relationship with the club and that this was based on decision by Al Ahly’s officials, issued earlier this month.
In addition, he added that they already thanked the player for the period spent in the club along with his colleagues and wished him success in his future.
The 34-years-old defensive midfielder has been playing at Al Ahly since 2003 making 286 appearances for the team with a total of 34 trophies including 12 Egyptian Premier League trophies, three Egypt Cups, Eight Egyptian Super Cups, five CAF Champions League trophies, one Confederation Cup and five CAF Super Cups.
