Pyramids FC’s strategic advisor, Abdelaziz Abdelshafy, announced the signing of former Al Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy, after the latter publicly expressed his desire to leave the club.
Ekramy’s role with the Red Devils diminished massively, especially with the arrival of Mohamed El-Shennawy from Petrojet in 2016.
Ekramy was still the club’s first choice goalkeeper but slowly fell out of favor in 2017 under head coach Hossam El-Badry and has made a handful of appearances since.
The arrival of Swiss manager Rene Weiler didn’t change his situation as he was able to make just one appearance under the new management in the Egypt Cup against Beni Suef FC.
As a result, the 36-year-old requested to leave Al Ahly last March, which was approved by the club’s board.
His destination was unknown until Pyramids FC’s current caretaker and strategic advisor, Abdelaziz Abdelshafy, announced his acquisition on June 2nd.
Ekramy spent the majority of his career within the Red Castle, as he made his first team debut in 2003 before having brief spells at Dutch side Feyenoord, MKE Ankaragucu in Turkey and El-Gouna between 2005 and 2009.
He then returned to Al Ahly in 2010 where he’s had an illustrious career winning 18 trophies in his 10-year spell including seven Egyptian Premier League titles and two CAF Champions League trophies.

Ekramy is among the list of veteran players to leave Al Ahly this season along with Ahmed Fathi, who also joined Pyramids FC, and the club’s most decorated player Hossam Ashour.
