Abel Camara
Guinea-Bissau forward Abel Camara reflects on his team’s historic achievement of reaching the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time.

Three qualifying wins including a dramatic 97th minute winner against Zambia insured Guinea-Bissau’s first-ever qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Djurtus were seeded in a relatively tough group with hosts Gabon, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Burkina Faso.

Baciro Cande’s men proved they were no pushovers after stunning host nation Gabon in the first match of the group, snatching a late equaliser while they almost drew with Cameroon in the second match had it not been for for Siani & Ngadjui’s late goals following Piqueti’s dazzling solo effort.

Belenenses forward Abel Camara spoke to KingFut about his team’s ambitions in Gabon.

“I am very proud to be part of this squad. It was an awesome sensation to make the opening game,” Camara expressed.

“It was an unbelievable atmosphere when we left Guinea-Bissau. We didn’t achieve anything yet but we feel like heroes,” the 27-year-old enthused.

Cande’s men face Burkina Faso in the last match of the group stages. They’re currently in bottom spot with one point, Burkina Faso & Gabon have two points each while Cameroon lead the group with four points.

“We want to pass the group stages, dreams are for free so we will do our job. It’s win against Burkina and we hope Gabon help us.
In football everything is possible,” concluded Abel Camara.
