VIDEO: Al Ahly's Percy Tau scores first-ever AFCON goal

Al Ahly’s star Percy Tau has scored his first-ever AFCON goal as South Africa beat Namibia 4-0 to revive their qualification chances.

The Bafana Bafana had lost their opening game 2-0 against Mali and needed to beat Namibia to go up to second as Tunisia held Mali to a 1-1 draw earlier on Sunday.

Al Ahly’s Percy Tau began the rout with a 14th-minute penalty, redeeming himself after firing one wide in their first match against Mali.

The goal is Percy Tau’s first-ever in an AFCON competition, with his only goal contribution coming in a 1-0 win in the 2019 edition, also over Namibia, when he assisted Bongani Zungu from a corner.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ midfielder Themba Zwane scored twice in the space of 15 minutes, in the 25th and 40th minutes, to extend South Africa’s lead by three goals.

In the 75th minute, substitute Thapelo Maseko made it four to ensure an emphatic for South Africa over their neighbors Namibia.

A win for both sides in their last game against Mali and Tunisia will guarantee them a place in the last 16; however, a draw for either side could also be enough for a third-placed qualification.
