VIDEO: Trezeguet opens season with Europa League goal

Egypt international Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet has opened his goalscoring record for the season in a victory over MFK Ružomberok.

Trabzonsor were drawn against Slovak side Ružomberok in the Second qualifying round of the UEFA Europea League, with the first-leg taking place at the Štadión pod Čebraťom, Ružomberok.

Trezeguet was placed in the starting line up and it took him just 39 minutes to open the scoring after tapping in Edin Visca’s low cross past the keeper.

The goal is Trezeguet’s third in the European competitions, having scored twice during the 2022/23 UEFA Europa League campaign.

Mahmoud was taken off in the 80th minute, being replaced by Mislav Orsic, who went on to assist the second goal in the added time, scored by Cihan Çanak.

The second leg will now take place on Thursday, August 1 at Papara Park in Trabzon, where Trezeguet’s side will be hoping to finish off the job to secure a spot in the third qualifying round.

If they make it through, Trabzonspor will face the winner of the Wisła Kraków-Rapid Wien clash, with the Austrian side winning the first-leg in Poland 2-1.
