Rulani Mokwena targets Esperance star as first Wydad signing

New Wydad Manager Rulani Mokwena has identified Tunisian winger Oussema Bouguerra as his first transfer target.

After two years at the helm of Sundowns, Rulani Mokwena has recently taken his first job outside of South Africa, signing a three-year deal at Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

It’s believed Mokwena had departed Sundowns because of a rift between him and sporting director Flemming Berg regarding player movements and style of play – among other issues.

Mokwena revealed in his introductory press conference in Morocco that he won’t have those concerns at Wydad, which seems like be true so far.

As per Mokwena’s request, Wydad have opened negotiations and are pushing to make their first summer signing in Tunisia and Espérance winger Oussema Bouguerra, according to Le360.

The 25-year-old only joined Espérance last summer on a free transfer from Olympique Beja, helping the club win the Tunisian Ligue 1 and reach the CAF Champions League final, which they lost to Al Ahly.

Wydad had a horrendous season last season in the Botola Pro League, finishing sixth in the league table, meaning they will miss out on the CAF competitions next season.

Esperance looks like they will be willing to do a deal as Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso does not consider the player an important member of their squad and Esperance management looks like they will trust their manager’s decisions.
