Egypt’s Bilal Mazhar joins Estrela da Amadora

Egypt striker Bilal Mazhar has completed a move to Portuguese club Estrela da Amadora on a free transfer after his contract with Panathinaikos expired.

The 20-year-old has made a name for himself in Greece, where he played with the Panathinaikos B and youth teams, winning the 2023 UEFA Youth League top scorer award.

Despite his successes with the B team, Mazhar failed to make a single appearance for the club’s first team and saw his contract run out earlier this summer.

It didn’t take him long however to find a new club after Portuguese club Estrela da Amadora signed him on a free transfer, where he will play alongside ex-Real Madrid and Man Utd winger Nani.

Based in Amadora, Estrela have already made 19 signings this summer, André Luiz from Flamengo, FC Porto’s Francisco Meixedo, and Portuguese icon Luis Nani.

Mahzar will now become the second Egyptian in the Portuguese league alongside Ahmed Hassan Kouka, who has returned to Rio Ave after nine years.

Bilal was also a part of the Egyptian team that played in the 2024 Paris Olympics, helping the Pharaohs finish fourth.
