OFFICIAL: EFA announce Mohamed Salah to leave Egypt camp after Cape Verde game

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have announced that Mohamed Salah will fly to England after the Cape Verde game to continue his rehab in Liverpool.

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah was forced off injured on the brink of half-time in the Pharaohs’ 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday.

The scans revealed it was a hamstring injury, with the EFA initially revealing that he will miss just two games, the final group game against Cape Verde, and the round of 16 tie in case the Pharaohs make it through.

However, it seems now that Salah will miss the entire tournament and return to Anfield to continue rehab with his club, as confirmed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Asked about the possibility of Salah returning to Merseyside during his post-match press conference following Liverpool’s 4-0 win at AFC Bournemouth, Klopp said: “That’s the plan. If that’s already decided 100 per cent I don’t know, but that’s the plan.”

The EFA went on to confirm the news just a few minutes later in a short statement which stated that Salah will fly to England on Monday, with ‘hope’ he would return in the semi-finals if the Pharaohs made it all the way there.

The EFA’s statement read: “After conducting additional examinations for Mohamed Salah in the last few hours and following communication between the national team’s medical staff and their counterparts at Liverpool, it has been decided that the player will return to England after tomorrow’s Cape Verde match to continue his treatment. The hope is that he will join the team in the semi-final of the African Cup of Nations if they qualify.”
