VIDEO: Mohamed Abdelmonem makes OGC Nice debut

Egypt international Mohamed Abdelmonem has made his OGC Nice debut in a comfortable 4-1 victory over Angers.

Abdelmonem’s move to Nice from Al Ahly was only announced on Thursday after the player signed a four-year deal that will run until June 2028 to replace Jean Clair Todibo.

Only three days later, Abdelmonem found himself in the matchday squad as Nice travelled to face Angers in the third round of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season.

Abdelmonem started on the bench as manager Franck Haise played Dante, Youssouf Ndayishimiye, and new signing Moïse Bombito in a three-man defensive line.

The visitors found themselves 2-0 up at half-time, thanks to goals from Ndayishimiye and Hicham Boudaoui; however, a mistake from Bombito saw Angers earn a penalty kick in the 67th minute as well as the Canadian getting sent off.

Himad Abdelli pulled one back from the sport for Angers before Abdelmonem was introduced to fill in the void left by Bombito’s dismissal.

The Egyptian left his mark by helping ten-men Nice hold on and not only that as they managed to score twice through Evann Guessand to win the tie 4-1.

Abdelmonem has now become the ninth Egyptian to play in the Ligue 1 after Mostafa Mohamed, Mido, and Hosny Abd Rabo to name a few.

The win was also Nice’s first of the season as they now sit eighth on the league table with four points, while Angers remained pointless in the 17th place.
