Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Ahmed Hossam Mido believes some referees are deliberately making decisions against Zamalek.

Zamalek dropped points again in the Egyptian Premier League as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Arab Contractors.

Youssef Obama’s second-half strike gave Zamalek the lead before it was cancelled out by a late goal from Ahmed Alaa in stoppage time.

The game also witnessed some controversial refereeing decisions with match official Amin Omar denying Zamalek a penalty after the break following a brief VAR review.

Omar’s decision was met with criticism after the game as Mido expressed his frustration and questioned the integrity of Egyptian referees.

“I think Amin Omar did not officiate this game responsibly,” Mido said on Al-Mehwar TV channel.

“If you heard the conversation with his VAR assistant, he was going to the monitor with the intention of not awarding the penalty.

“You can clearly hear that Omar was instructed to have a look from a different angle but he just refused to listen and only wanted to make decisions on his own.

“This is a scandal and it only shows that some Egyptian referees have an agenda against Zamalek. I am not making excuses for them, they did not deserve to win today.

“But referees should also be held accountable for their decisions and the Egyptian Football Association must take action against him,” he added.
