Egyptian tennis player Mohamed Safwat lost against Portuguese player Frederico Silva in the second qualifying round of Wimbledon.

Safwat came up against Denmark’s Mikael Torpegaard in the first qualifying round. The game went back and forth with the Egyptian taking the lead in the first set 7-5, before losing the second set 3-6.

He won in similar fashion in the final set 7-5 to win the game.

His second game against Frederico Silva from Portugal wasn’t as close. Despite only losing the first set 5-7, Safwat quickly lost the second set 3-6.

Last year, the 30-year-old had won his first ATP tournament at the Launceston International in Australia earlier. In 2020 he had reached a career-high ranking at 130 but has now dropped to 172.
