Former Zamalek star Khaled El-Ghandour affirmed that Al Ahly and Sundowns are the two strongest African teams and Pyramids lacks ambition.
El-Ghandour believes both Al Ahly and Zamalek should have higher expectations and not get carried away with narrow victories.
The 53-year-old stated on Ten TV channel: “It is a shame to say that Al Ahly defeated Medeama and consider this an achievement.
“We are talking about players from the Egyptian national team. You have all the elements and capabilities to be the best team. Winning any match is normal and not an achievement.
“Zamalek are one of the strong candidates to win the Confederation Cup, and they must reach the final. The idea that Zamalek qualifies as first place and people are happy is a shame.
“I believe the CAF Champions League has become a weak tournament. Wydad are trying to improve, and Esperance’s level has declined. Al Ahly and Sundowns are the two strongest teams in the African continent.
El-Ghandour also pointed out that football has motivations and ambitions, and Pyramids lack that, and some individuals have earned millions from the celestial club, not just players and technical staff.
“For two or three years, I think about the Pyramids team, a lot of money is spent on players, and there are changes in coaches and foreign players at the highest level, and the results are none, and you feel that there is something strange,” he continued.
“It is unnatural and illogical for a team that has been around for more than six or seven years to not win at least one trophy. They even lost the Egyptian League Cup.”
“If Zamalek want a player, I suggest they sign Ramadan Sobhi. It won’t be a beneficial deal technically. Ramadan won’t be useful as he is not focused on football.”
“The last time Ramadan Sobhi developed himself was before leaving Al Ahly under the leadership of René Weiler. I sadly speak about a talent that was rising like a rocket. Ramadan, at 18, brought the league title to Al Ahly.”
“His decision to leave Al Ahly was a disaster for his future. If he was present at Al Ahly, he would have been in a different place.”
