Egypt international Amro Tarek has joined MLS side New York Red Bulls from Orlando City SC, the club have announced on Tuesday.

Tarek had joined Orlando City last February on loan from Wadi Degla, before the club exercised the option to sign the Egyptian on a permanent basis.

During his time at Orlando City, Tarek made 22 appearances for them, scoring once in the MLS as his side finished bottom of the Eastern Conference.

The 26-year-old has now been traded to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.

The Red Bulls have finished last season as the champions of the Eastern Conference and were crowned as the Supporters’ Shield winner after collecting 71 points from 34 games.

However, they failed to win the MLS Cup after losing to eventual winners Atlanta United in the conference final.

“We are pleased to add Amro to our club,” Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said.

“He is a versatile defender with experience both in MLS and abroad, and he has qualities that we like. We look forward to Amro joining us for preseason camp and seeing how he fits with our team,” he added.

On the other hand, Amro Tarek has bid farewell to his old club, saying: “I just want to thank Orlando City, teammates, and all their amazing fans for the support this season. I know it was a short ride but, I’ll always be proud to have been a lion!.”

New York Red Bulls will become Tarek’s third MLS side after Orlando City and Columbus Crew, who signed him on loan from Real Betis during the 2015-2016 season.

Amro Tarek has played for numerous clubs in Egypt, including Asyut Cement, ENPPI, El-Gouna, and Wadi Degla. He also featured for the U19 team of FC Magdeburg, SC Freiburg II, and Wolfsburg II.

On the international level, Tarek has represented Egypt on two occasions, making his debut against Togo in March 2017, before playing once against Swaziland in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers. He also appeared for the United States at the Under-20 level.
