It’s been a great year on the hiking front.
Extended trips in southwest Tasmania, the Colombian Andes, New York’s Adirondacks and the Colorado Rockies. Throw in some shorter hikes in my beloved Mexico and my ‘ancestral’ home of Queensland, Australia. All in all an excellent twelve months!
Below are 25 of my favourite photos from the year past:
The “hiking” year began on somewhat of a different note; lobbying on behalf of the Continental Divide Trail in Washington DC | Pictured here with the CDTC delegation and Senator Mike Enzi.
Back to more familiar surrounds on the Arthur Range Traverse | Fog, mud, freezing rain, driving wind……….gotta love southwest Tasmania in the summer time! 😉
Mud slogging | Farmhouse creek | Arthur Range Traverse, SW Tasmania.
Jokes aside, Tasmania’s Arthur Range is one of my favourite areas to hike in all of Australia.
Sunset in the Eastern Arthurs | SW Tasmania
(L to R) Hiker, Sun, Tarptent ProTrail & MLD SoloMid | Arthur Range Traverse.
Brother-in-law, Jonno, on the Arthur Range Traverse | SW Tasmania
Laguna Hoja Larga | Sierra Nevada Del Cocuy, Colombia.
Approaching Paso del Castillo | Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, Colombia (MLD Exodus Backpack)
Laguna El Rincon | Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, Colombia
MLD SoloMid | Colorado Trail | I hiked the CT in the first couple of weeks of September. A beautiful time to be in the Rockies. Cool temps, not too many people and the autumnal colours just starting to kick in.
Sunset just south of Bald Mountain | Colorado Trail.

In 2015, the Hiking Life website underwent a long overdue overhaul | Many thanks to the gentleman pictured to my left, Paul “Mags” Magnanti, who’s IT expertise and patience with my woeful lack of cyber savvy, helped to make it possible.
Greg “Malto” Gressel | Avalanche Lake | During our 220 mile hike in New York’s Adirondacks, 6″ of rain fell over the course of a day and a half.
Malto wading through the Duck Hole area | Adirondacks, NY.
Sunrise over Stephens Pond | Adirondacks, NY.
Fall colours on the Northville-Placid Trail | Adirondacks, NY.

Thanks for the kind words. The last photo of the dock is stunning. Having explored the ancestral Puebloan culture myself this year, I really appreciated the El Quemado photo. There was trade between the Puebloan and the ancestral Mexican cultures so not surprised to see some similarities at times!
Hi Cam – really enjoyed this post. I’ve been wondering, what happened to the hike just north and west of Lake Chapala at the three volcanoes area (I forget the name)? I met you about a year and a half ago along Camino Real, Ajijic, and thought the trip was all set. Maybe it’s still coming?
Really like your website. Adios. Ken
Hi Ken,
Thanks for the message. Funny you mention that hike. I was just thinking about it the other day. It was put on the back burner due to another commitment a while ago; hopefully 2016!
Saludos,
Cam
